Trust Precision Engineering improve confidence in quality control

Trust Precision Engineering is a specialist in CNC sliding head manufacturing, with 11 machines running 24 hours a day. They primarily work across the motorsport, medical and aerospace industries, providing the highest quality components for their customers.

Trust Precision Engineering has invested in a wide range of technologies from the Carfulan Group over the last 7 years. This has allowed them to create a seamless inspection process of their components and have full traceability across the shopfloor.

The Carfulan Group specialises in providing the most advanced manufacturing technologies available, helping customers to achieve optimal performance and end-product excellence. Across its five divisions, the group aims to allow customers like Trust Precision Engineering to measure parts more accurately, design more freely and manufacture more efficiently.

Project Brief:

Trust Precision Engineering’s focus is their reputation and ensuring the high-level quality of every single component they produce. Trust Precision needed to ensure their parts were accurate, consistent and fully traceable.

Trust Precision Engineering were looking to upgrade their inspection systems to the latest technology to improve their overall inspection process, and made contact with the Carfulan Group to explore their wide range of technological solutions.

“It’s repeatability. It’s speed. We have 11 sliding head machines on our shopfloor and they make a lot of parts very, very quickly. We needed to be able to check our parts confidently and accurately, it’s the cornerstone of everything,” said Stephen Doyle, Sales and Marketing Manager at Trust Precision Engineering.

The Solution:

Trust Precision Engineering invested in a wide range of technologies from across all divisions of the Carfulan Group to create a seamless inspections process, whilst providing them with a complete solution from a singular provider.

Trust Precision Engineering upgraded to a CNC 200 metrology machine with ZONE3 software from OGP UK, the best-in-class multi-sensor measurement systems, the Techno 304 turned-part measurement machine from VICIVISION UK, specialists in high performance, non-contact measurement systems and both QC-CALC and SPC Office Buddy from Prolink UK, which empowers manufacturers with real-time data monitoring, automated reporting and integration software.

“The OGP CNC 200 is a high-end metrology machine, QC-CALC does exactly what you want it to do and the VICIVISION Techno 304 suits our purpose extremely well,” said Stephen.

“The fact that it is all under Carfulan wasn’t the drive but my goodness I’m glad it was. It’s the products that drew us in, but it‘s the service that is going to keep us. A lot of our parts will utilise all of the technologies so if we ring up with a problem, we know we’re speaking to someone who deals with all of the technologies.”

The Benefits:

Investing in a wide range of technologies from across multiple divisions of the Carfulan Group has allowed Trust Precision Engineering to enhance their entire manufacturing processes and upgrade their old machines to the latest technologies. Trust Precision Engineering is now able to ensure speed, accuracy and traceability across their entire manufacturing processes.

Managing Director of Trust Precision Engineering, Nick Street, explained the benefits of upgrading their measurement technology with the Carfulan Group:

“I was looking for machines that could measure intersections that manually I couldn’t have checked. We upgraded to the OGP CNC 200 to have the ZONE3 software which allowed us to program offline in preparation for the components coming through.

“When you start getting down to microns there can be a discrepancy between operators, whereas with the Techno 304 you can guarantee everybody is checking the parts consistently. If something is wearing, Prolink shows you can the data starting to move towards the top or bottom limit. The QC-CALC and SPC OfficeBuddy software populates the screen and just puts all the information for the operator to see.

“A lot of our customers will come to us with their own parts because they trust our inspection processes over their own.”

Stephen commented:

“We’ve been with the Carfulan Group for 7 years now, and the technologies have exceeded what we expected to get. We are measuring better and more consistently, using the CNC 200 and the Techno 304.

“Having the ZONE3 software means that we can programme the inspection on the PC, without tying another inspection measurement machine up and QC-CALC merges within a file on our server. The data is stored on our server so we can pick it up across our sights. We can be in unit 5 doing a measurement on the VICIVISION and if that OGP is in use we can pick straight up on other one at unit 2.

“Having that single point of contact for all of our measurement and inspection equipment is a better way to work. It’s become embedded into the processes we use every day.”
